Down-South Style Green Beans



Ingredients


  • 6 cups of water
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper  
  • 1 pound fresh green beans - rinsed, trimmed and snapped into bite size pieces 
  • 1 ham hock 
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder 
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons lard or other cooking fat 
  • 1 teaspoon seasoning salt 
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt



Method

  1. Firstly, mix the water, ham hock, and lard in a large pot over medium-high heat. 
  2. Season with  pepper, garlic powder, seasoning salt, salt,, and onion powder. 
  3. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low, and add green beans. 
  4. Finally, Simmer covered for about two hrs.
